Heart to Heart Talk with Philip S. Chua, M.D.

Welcome to Gutom.org - The Portal for the Pinoy Perspective

The word "Gutom" depending on how it is pronounced or used in a sentence is Filipino for either "hunger" or “hungry”. The site is dedicated to providing Filipinos and their communities throughout the world an outlet to present their views on various topics ranging from life outside of their homeland to current events affecting their daily lives. The site is open to all Filipinos and those that provide assistance to or interact with Filipinos regularly.

This is an ongoing project and will continually dedicate itself to meeting the “hunger” of Filipinos for change, for success and for a worthwhile community.

We strive provide a worthwhile community for Filipinos across the globe and allow them to network with their peers and freely present their individual perspectives on how they see the current global events, the state of their homeland and the world as a whole.

  Knowledge neglected
Government and PoliticsJJ writes "We all, not only filipinos, tend to forget a crucial element for solving a problem; The question why. From corruption to egoism the cause of "crap mentality" must be known. Too many people tend to believe that force, strength and money is the power to improve. Which alot of filipinos knows that it is the wrong way of thinking and therefore named it so. But even those people could not see any cause or any solution to this so-called crap mentality except to let the people have a stronger discipline.

An Essay Of The Threat Level To Society
Environment, Community and SocietyJJ writes "Never has it been mans interest to prohibit or restrict any type of expression - as they say to anyone. And yet in the world we live in, any institution or organization believing that they are being threaten or potential threat on political, social or moral order are applying preventive censorship on those who express strong disapproval or criticism.    In Pursuit of
Personal Stories and ExperiencesJess writes "Doomsayer and do-gooder populate Philippine Newspapers. This idea came in to me in small increments. Consequently, it loomed large in my face. I combed all the Philippines newspapers compiled by newswealth.com and identify columnists who are doomsayer and do-gooder in their opinions. This is what I found. Doomsayers are not in short supply, and do-gooders are catching up. However, there are columnists, too, who often time switch sides. I couldn’t pigeonhole them as either doomsayer or do-gooder. Their dual interchanging persona intrigued me. What do you call a person who is a cross between doomsayer and a do-gooder... a “pessimist-altruist”? Is there such a tag?

  life's a *****
Personal Stories and Experiencesleviuqse writes "Chasing Tail - As I write this, out of the corner of my eye I can see our neighbor’s dog, Mikmik, trying to catch his tail. He's making tight, frantic little circles, nearly spinning off his axis, just to get a taste of that which he thinks he simply MUST have. The very elusiveness of his tail is what makes him so adamant about capturing it. Mikmik is cute, but a little dim. Okay, he's the doggie equivalent of a box of rocks when it comes to intellect, but all of us in the neighborhood love him. Of COURSE, he's never going to catch his tail. And if by some miracle he DID, he'd only end up hurting himself by enthusiastically chomping down on it. You can't tell him that, though. He's on a quest. And he's stupid. Lovable, but stupid.

Hopefully, a long road that will have it's share of hills and valleys. As long as we're moving, regardless of time and speed, we are heading somewhere...the problems arise when we get sidetracked, confused, or simply stuck in the mud.

  baliw?
Personal Stories and Experiencesleviuqse writes "When I was a child, I was always told that the world is a wonderful place, and that there are only a few bad apples out there wreaking havoc upon the masses. Good prevailed over Evil, and when something went wrong, it was only a way for us to learn and improve our lives. While that may be true, one day I asked myself, "If there are so many good people walking around, how come the world for so long has been such a mess?" All a person has to do is open the Bible, and over and over again there are scriptures telling us about the landscape in which we live. I am not one who takes kindly to refuge in falsehood...I do believe the Truth does set you free.

  pag-ibig
Personal Stories and Experiencesleviuqse writes "One of the greatest human fears is living, being, and dying alone; however, there is something that can overcome this fear, and that is love. What is love? Can you see it? Does one touch love, or is love only to be sensed? Does true love exist, or is it just a cheap thrill that lasts for one night? Does love have substance or is it merely a word fabricated as a way to justify the means of propagation?

We commemorate World Press Freedom Day today anguishing over the lack of genuine freedom of expression in our country and girding our loins to resist yet other attempts to muzzle the Philippine Press. The statistics are grim enough:

  A New Flavor in Town
Lifestyle, Food & TravelOn April 24, a new juice/smoothie shop opened in the heart of Downtown San Diego, California without much fanfare. At first glance, one would think that the shop is just another blend-and-go joint with a funky name, however if one would take a closer look, one would notice that there is something distinctly different about this new establishment. There is something distinctly unique, to your everyday American, something distinctly exotic, to your everyday Filipino something distinctly familiar from home.

Government and Politicssilentwater writes "Sa pagnanasang makadampot ng kaligayahan

Mahirap lumaya…
Kahit gumising sa bangungot sa umaga.
