subject of Fathers.
A year ago, the undersigned made a similar call for poems on the same subject,
but we limited the invitees to Filipino poets in the homeland and abroad. The
resulting collection, simply titled FATHER POEMS, published by Anvil Publishing,
Inc. of Manila, has been quite successful.

On June 3-5, 2005, the 9th national Filipino American Women's Network Conference
(FAWN) is taking place at New York University's Kimmel Center in New York City.
National FAWN conferences have brought together hundreds of Filipino women
nationwide in an effort to foster growth, leadership, and positive change in the
community. Every conference has had its own theme and slant. Ours is, Coming
into Our Own: Spirit, Leadership and Success. FAWN 2005 will examine our
connection to the Babaylan leadership of our Filipino ancestors and sisters,
beyond geography and time. We also intend to examine the present and project
into the future in order to help ourselves. So we can improve how we help our
families and communities to which we are intrinsically connected.

Here is an announcement from the All-UP Workers Union and All-UP Academic
Employees union for a day of protest rallies to demand the following:
a) P3,000 increase in their monthly salary (a demand since around 2001 pa)
b) demand for an increase in the budgets of the UP and the Education sector.
c) demand that priority should be given to education and social services instead
of payment of the foreign debt.
