  A New Flavor in Town
Lifestyle, Food & TravelOn April 24, a new juice/smoothie shop opened in the heart of Downtown San Diego, California without much fanfare. At first glance, one would think that the shop is just another blend-and-go joint with a funky name, however if one would take a closer look, one would notice that there is something distinctly different about this new establishment. There is something distinctly unique, to your everyday American, something distinctly exotic, to your everyday Filipino something distinctly familiar from home.

Lifestyle, Food & TravelPuerto Galera is one of those places where the first view upon arrival is simply glorious! This coastal town at the northern part of Oriental Mindoro province is five hours south of Manila -- by road and by ferry. The ferry weaves its way among a cluster of hilly islands and headlands into an even more protected natural harbor, thousands of coconut palms crowding down to the shoreline. The water is sparkling aquamarine. As you approach the port, a fleet of yachts at anchor hove into view -- sleek white swans against a background of dazzling blue and green.

  Writers and rum
Lifestyle, Food & TravelBy Alfred A. yuson

Of course the first association would involve Ernest Hemingway and Cuban rum that he swigged standing up, maybe even before the typewriter on that tall table he romanced macho-like, while on his toes. Or okay, maybe at a bar in Havana, cigar end dipped into 140-proof golden liquid, licked and bit off, then lit at the other end. Then the swig, swigs — rough elbows dipping into dark mahogany, as fellow bar aficionados stood back to respect the space between Ernest’s drink and his writer-ly, fisherman-ly aura.
