All-UP Workers and Academic Employees Unions to go to the streets Jan. 28
Important AnnouncementsHere is an announcement from the All-UP Workers Union and All-UP Academic Employees union for a day of protest rallies to demand the following:
a) P3,000 increase in their monthly salary (a demand since around 2001 pa)
b) demand for an increase in the budgets of the UP and the Education sector.
c) demand that priority should be given to education and social services instead of payment of the foreign debt.

The protesters will assemble at UP at noon, then march to Philcoa to join other groups, then to Mendiola in Manila.

In Congress there is a bill by partylist congressmen to increase the salary by 125 per day (2001 pa rin ang demand na ito) and the monthly salary by 3,000.

It seems that the workers and employess in government offices are resorting to both the parliament at Batasan and the parliament in the streets.

It is not surprising since all prices, taxes and fees have increased several fold already since 2000 and their wages and salaries have not increased. Buti pa yong mga entripnoys, they can just pass on to the consumers the increases in the taxes and prices but these employees could get to pay those increases in
what they buy from their wages and salaries that have not a cent added for quite a long time now.

In other words, their take home pay gets smaller and smaller. Thus, their option is to ask for an increase since they are just your 8-5 employees or workers.

The employers, incl. the government, counter that if they pay more, they will go bankrupt. So they ask their employees to just dig deeper into their pockets.

===================
